From This Moment by Melanie Harlow

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Publishing Date: October 10th, 2017

It was like seeing a ghost.

When my late husband’s twin brother moves back to our small town, I want to avoid him. Everything about Wes reminds me of the man I lost and the life we’d planned together, and after eighteen long months struggling just to get out of bed, I’m finally doing okay. I have a new job, an amazing support group, and a beautiful five-year-old daughter to parent. I don’t want to go backward.

But I’m drawn to him, too. He understands my grief and anger and guilt like no one else—and I understand his. Before long, that understanding becomes desire, and that desire becomes uncontrollable.

He says he doesn’t care what people think, and love can never be wrong. But life has taught me its cruelest lesson–love doesn’t always win.

If only my heart would believe it.

Nineteen-year-old Cam has a metric ton of emotional baggage and is in no mood to unload them on anyone. After her parents’ marriage imploded, stress-free is the only way she wants her life to be. And what could be more freeing than spending the summer on Boracay? Absolutely nothing… until she bumps heads with Hunter, the hot drummer who screams incoming heartbreak from a mile away.

Hunter has grand plans, none of which include angry-at-the-world Cam, best friend to the girl he always thought he’d end up with. He likes his life steady, thank you very much. But steady has now become synonymous with boring. His grand plans don’t seem so grand anymore. So when Cam comes home to Iloilo City and reaches out to him, he surprises himself when the one answer he can think of is… yes. Definitely yes.

Black Bird of the Gallows by Meg Kassel – 5/5 Stars

IMG_2372.jpg

Title: Black Bird of the Gallows
Author: Meg Kassel
Category: Young Adult, Fantasy, Paranormal, Romance
Published: September 5, 2017
My Rating: 5 Stars +

A simple but forgotten truth: Where harbingers of death appear, the morgues will soon be full.

Angie Dovage can tell there’s more to Reece Fernandez than just the tall, brooding athlete who has her classmates swooning, but she can’t imagine his presence signals a tragedy that will devastate her small town. When something supernatural tries to attack her, Angie is thrown into a battle between good and evil she never saw coming. Right in the center of it is Reece—and he’s not human.

What’s more, she knows something most don’t. That the secrets her town holds could kill them all. But that’s only half as dangerous as falling in love with a harbinger of death.

“Fly with me, baby, there’s nothing to fear. Stay with me today, before you have to go. Be with me, baby, no need to hide. In the light of the new day, the fire’s burning low. Can’t stop searching, for some spark of hope. Find your way to dry land, the sea will drag me down. Swimming to the far shore, to the lonely underground. You’ll be gone before I’ve drowned. Before I ever make a sound, I’ll never make a sound…”

I. Loved. This. Book.
To say this book was good is like saying that Florida is warm in the summer. Florida is dang hot in the summer, and this book is dang awesome!!!

I loved the characters. Especially the two main characters, Angie and Reece, and yes I really liked their relationship. A lot of people compared the romance to Twilight’s instalove. So, yes, if you don’t like that kind of thing you might not enjoy the romance. I, however, loved the romance in Twilight (it’s the only thing I like about Twilight) and I loved watching this romance develop.

But, even if you don’t like the romance….this book is SO MUCH MORE!!! The crows, the folklore of harbingers of death, the bees (I’m still trying to sort that out in my head, and hope with further Books on the series to understand…why bees) and very old curses. There lots of action/adventure, survival stuff. This book is filled with a lot!!! I don’t want to give away too much, so that’s why I’m being vague, but I want you to know this isn’t just a romance book, and it’s definitely NOT BORING!!!

If you like Young Adult, Paranormal, Folklore, Romance, Action/Adventure Survival stuff…then give this book a try. I really think you’ll like it. I gave it 5/5 Stars.

The Secret by Christie Ridgway

#IMG_2118This is the first book I’ve read by Christie Ridgway, but it definitely will not be the last. The Secret was all kinds of sweetness, sexiness and a very emotional read.

I fell in love with all the central characters as they came on the scene. Charlotte “Charlie” is the butler for the Archer household. She keeps everything running smoothly, including taking care of six-year-old Wells Archer. Wells is adorable and so well behaved, and he adores Charlie. Ethan Archer is Well’s father. Ethan works a lot and is away a lot, so having Charlie is a necessity. But one thing is certain, Ethan adores his son. Ethan’s wife, and Well’s mother, died four years earlier. Ethan hasn’t moved on, or started dating since. His boss has been really leaning on him, pushing him to date. This is when Ethan begins to notice Charlie. He’s always liked Charlie, and appreciated her. But has he always noticed how gorgeous she was?

Charlie has a hard time. She has had a crush on her boss, Ethan, for a while. But, Charlie knows it wouldn’t be right to act on that. It wouldn’t be professional, it would be against everything she learned at the Continental Butler School. But slowly she breaks down and I love the flirting that goes on between the two. And of course their first priority is Wells and so they are very careful about that.

The thing I kept finding hard to accept was that Ethan said he already had the love of his life, and he could never have that again. He didn’t believe there was room in his heart to love anyone else, because the love for his dead wife and his son were filling his heart. But he wanted her to marry her, as a marriage of convenience. He was extremely attracted to her and cared about her, it was the love word…he couldn’t do that. But she was ok with that. I was like…WHAT!!!

But, don’t let that discourage you folks. This is a HEA and I absolutely loved the ending!!! This was such a sweet book with really great characters!! If you love a good romance, I bet you’ll love this one!!

~Thanks to the author for providing a copy of this book via L Woods PR in exchange for my honest thoughts.

Book Blitz & Review for Sketches of My Soul by TC Booth

Sketches of My Soul banner
This is my stop during the book blitz for Sketches of My Soul by TC Booth. This book blitz is organized by Lola’s Blog Tours. The book blitz runs from 3 till 9 July. See the tour schedule here.

Sketches of My SoulSketches of My Soul (Sketches #1)
By TC Booth
Genre: Contemporary
Age category: Young Adult
Release Date: June 20, 2017

Blurb:
In the game of life, I was used to being on the losing team. The odds were stacked against me. Tegan’s Team—a mom who tried to control me, a dad who would rather drink then spend time being a father, a lying ex-boyfriend, and fake friends. Like any team however, you have that one shining star that stood out above the rest. For me that star was Emily, my best friend.

I guess life had pity on me the day it gave me a friend that always had my back. Life must have felt extra giving the day it gave me a cheer leader—Mrs. White, my next-door neighbor. She’d been more of a parent to me growing up then my own parents.

And then there was Andrew. He was my shooting star. One that I never saw coming. One that I hoped became mine over the summer of my senior year.

A glimpse into a crystal ball couldn’t have prepared me for that summer, though. The summer where a letter from my mom rocked me to the core. I felt the world shake with every word I read in that letter. By the time I reached the end, my world split wide open swallowing me whole.

I really enjoyed this book. The characters really drew me and I became very invested in their lives. Tegan struggled a lot in her life and felt alone. She would get her feelings out by taking her sketchbook and sketching what she felt, whether good or bad. She had one sketchbook where she kept her private feelings, much like a diary, but sketches. These were the sketches of her soul, you could say. (I just love that title!) She got lost in her sketching, becoming oblivious to the things around her. Much like a musician that gets lost in his music, which is where Andrew comes in. Andrew and Tegan were friends when they were younger. Tegan lives next door to Andrew’s grandmother, who she loves as if she was her own, and Andrew would come with his mother to visit his grandmother and play with Tegan while he was there. They became very close friends. But then one day Andrew stopped coming. No explanations, no goodbyes, he just disappeared. Leaving Tegan alone.

Tegan’s family relationships weren’t good. Her mother tried to control her, and was never happy with her. She always made Tegan feel like she wasn’t good enough. Her father was an alcoholic and, as Tegan felt, he’d rather spend time being drunk than be a good father. She had a lying ex-boyfriend and fake friends. Realizing all of this has caused Tegan to pull away from everyone and everything and choose to isolate herself more and more, even though her best friend Emily begs her not to, saying that by doing so she is only letting them win. But it’s Andrew who really draws Tegan out. He gets her like no one else, and she gets him. They understand each other in ways no one else can and so are able to help each other heal.

I loved the title of this book, it is what initially attracted me to the book. There are a few typos and grammatical errors, not enough that it caused me not to enjoy the book though. But, I do really recommend the book. The errors did not ruin the story for me and, unless you can’t handle any errors, I think you would enjoy this little gem of a book! It really is great!!

(This song and dancing in the rain, both have to do with the story.)
