MY REVIEW:

I loved this short story of a gothic romance in a haunted Inn. It was fun, had that great gothic vibe that I love and was very romantic. For such a short story it had a lot, the characters grew on you, the world building was fascinating and I feel like I want more of Blackbird Inn. It would make a wonderful setting for a series.

Release & Review: Hart of Darkness by S.B. Alexander

The road to love is paved in the dark.

Former gang member Dillon Hart abandoned the streets to join the US Merchant Marines. He feels his life is finally on track until he returns home to discover that his sixteen-year-old sister is missing. With his younger brother in jail and his older brother living a life of crime, it’s up to Dillon to find Grace. After four years of searching, a phone call from a morgue gives him a lead that he can’t pass up. Enlisting the help of a cutthroat reporter may be his only hope.

Crime reporter Maggie Marx has just the right mix of grit and sex appeal to get anything she wants, even the darkest stories on the street. Growing up in a gang, she had her fair share of setbacks and obstacles. When Dillon Hart seeks her help, she’s more than ready to take down the street’s biggest enemy. Her actions could help her exact revenge or land her in the belly of the beast.

As Dillon and Maggie team up to search for Dillon’s sister, they aren’t prepared to find what lies ahead. One family is torn apart. Another is brought together. Hearts are shredded, secrets are uncovered, and love takes on a whole new meaning.

90C8B53F-60CC-4117-A95C-EED8B07E0471

This book has everything. Romance, Mystery, Suspense, Adventure and Action. I’m sure i am missing something more, but it was definitely a romantic, steamy, suspenseful, keep you on the edge of your seat, book.

Dillon Hart…yummy! What a beautiful man! He has a heart of Gold, but when it comes to sex he becomes a tiger, and if anyone touches his family…especially his woman he becomes a dragon!!! He’s gorgeous, caring, sensual, sexy as heck, and he’s strong, powerful and knows how to fight. I mean what more could you ask for?!!!

Maggie Marx, reporter, sexy and strong. I really like Maggie. I wasn’t sure i would in the beginning. I get tired of these strong women characters who are so strong that they feel they don’t need a man, and they don’t. But that wasn’t Maggie, she is strong from her history. But she’s not as strong and independent as she thinks she is. We get to see her vulnerability. I love that.

All the characters in this book were written so well. Learning about Dillon’s family life, growing up, the things he, his two brothers and his sister went through. The family is disjointed and Dillon wants so much to find his sister, Grace, not knowing what has happened to her after all these years. Denim is in prison for a murder he did not commit, and Duke is involved is criminal activities. I am really looking forward to their stories!! But i have a hard time imagining falling in love with Denim & Duke the way i did with Dillon!!

I’m Susan Alexander, and you’ll find my books under S.B. Alexander. A little about me. I’ve been writing since 2012 and started with writing all about vampires. After the second vampire book, I began to branch out in New Adult Romance. I love to read mostly all genres, and I’m always game to try something new. So I tested my hand at writing romantic suspense and just loved it. So you’ll find I write in several different sub-genres of romance.

In between writing, I spend time with my soul mate of 20 years who got a bad deal in life. Three years ago he was diagnosed with ALS. It’s a horrible disease, but we both have been making the best of life, laughing, smiling, and doing what we can together.

But writing is a great outlet for me to take my mind to another place. Plus, I have a great network of family, friends, fans, and so much more. I truly have an angel on my shoulder. My mantra is make the best of life because it’s too darn short.

Review: Lineage

Title: Lineage
Author: C. Vonzale Lewis
Date of Publication: July 16th, 2019

E4B2CD67-CF89-44A3-A8E0-FD7531A5DF8A

Goodreads Summary:

Smart-mouthed Nicole Fontane has a way of getting herself into trouble. She’s been fired from every job she’s had but still refuses to work in her father’s apothecary shop because of his practice of Earth Magick. On Tulare Island where Nicole grew up, Magick has always been a way of life—one she’s determined to avoid at all costs.

With less than two hundred dollars in the bank and rent due, Nicole is forced to take a job at Tribec Insurance as a last resort. Little does she realize, the moment she sets foot inside the building, she becomes a pawn. A sinister force has set its sights on her and will stop at nothing to use her in a sadistic game.

Tribec’s proprietors, the Stewart family, are curiously preoccupied with the Naqada, the mysterious pre-dynastic Egyptian society. Nicole finds it creepy, but on the bright side, the job reconnects her with her estranged friend, Marta. Yet the eerie atmosphere, disappearing Magick wards, and the smell of blood inside Tribec bring Nicole to a startling conclusion—the Stewarts are practicing Blood Magick, the deadliest of the Five Principles. By the time Nicole uncovers the truth, Marta and her four children have gone missing, and all signs implicate the Stewarts and an archaic blood ritual to an Old One, a Naqada god imprisoned on Tulare Island.

Battling the evil of Blood Magick will demand Nicole to confront a hidden past and unlock the Magick buried within. But can she set aside her deep-rooted fears to work with a team of vigilante Mages? Or will the clock run out on Marta and her children—and on Nicole?

My Review:

THIS WAS THE COOLEST, MOST UNIQUE BOOK THAT I’VE EVER READ!!!!!!! IT WAS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

To think that this is the author’s debut book, it just blows me away!! It is labeled as Fantasy, but it is so much more than that! It has a little bit of everything. The world building – she writes a world so vividly that i could see it in my mind as if I’d been there. The characters, oh my goodness the characters!! I loved them!! Even the bad ones!! They were just sooo real, so believable!!! The growth we see in especially Nicole’s character is so effective, so moving!! The writing was very impressive, plot flowed smoothly, seamlessly & at a nice pace!! The more i read, the more I could not put the book down!! THE ROMANCE, WOW!!!!! I’d say Nicole has found the one! There was A LOT of hot, sexy guys and some hot, steamy scenes.😍 Nicole must wear some nice perfume, because she was getting all the hot men. Her friend Kara wanted one and couldn’t get him. Anyway this is book one in a series, but no big cliff hanger or anything. Thankfully!! BUT I STILL CAN’T WAIT FOR THE SECOND BOOK!!!!!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!!!!!

Book Blitz: I Know You Like A Murder by Amy L. Sauder

I Know You Like a Murder
Amy L. Sauder
Publication date: October 23rd 2018
Genres: Adult, Mystery

A narrator always gets to know the reader before spilling their deepest secret.

I am a murderer.

She was just a silly nothing of a girl until I made her rise to fame. A pennything.

So, reader: sit down, cozy up. I’d offer a cup of tea, but you may worry it’s poisoned, and you may be correct.

But I can’t just tell you how she died. That’s too easy. Too quick. Buckle up: you’re in for a villainous monologue.

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo

EXCERPT:

The 5 W’s of Murder

A narrator always gets to know the reader before spilling their deepest secret.

I am a murderer.

She was just a silly nothing of a girl until I made her rise to fame. A pennything.

I imagine a dreary donut-glaze day at the station before I dropped murder in their laps. I’d like to say the coppers pounded down my door in their cliché little way, but really it was a nice rap-tap-tap. Like the children’s ditty: Skunk in the barnyard, pee-yew. Murder in the theater…for you…

Clueless buffoons, more accustomed to traffic control rather than detective work. I wasn’t considered suspect; for all intents and purposes, I was victim.

“Tell us what happened.” “Did you notice anything out of the ordinary?” “Any odd or unusual behavior?” and the kicker: “Is there anyone who would have motive?”

“Don’t we all,” I said. “Don’t we all hold a reason to kill.”

I wasn’t much help. Why would I be? I divulged a dozen motives, to bait their sniffers a million directions, all but mine.

I don’t think they liked me all that much. Whatever. I wasn’t looking to impress. I was looking to distract. Once their curiosities turned elsewhere, I could move on to tell you, my now-avid readers, the story.

My story.

Our story.

If a tree falls in the forest and no one hears, does it make a sound? If a person is murdered and the tale is not told, did it happen?

And so, I have found my audience. Yes, you. Won’t you read my story, sleuth it out? I take the role of murderer, now you fancy yourself a detective.

Sit down, cozy up. I’d offer you a cup of tea, but you may worry it’s been poisoned, and you may be correct. But hold it, dear reader, don’t twist your shirt in a bundle before I give you all the pieces.

What: death, cold and sudden

Where: the most dramatic place for murder, the theater

When: the top of Act III, naturally

Who: Too many names, there are too many names in the world. I only remember the one girl. Don’t be indignant when you struggle to recall names, too.

No matter. I will choose some form of name to distinguish the lot. Let’s call them:

Madame Director,

Homeless Hag,

Facilities Hawk,

Villains 1 & 2,

Shy Boy,

Makeup Artist,

and Cami’s BFF.

But the one you’re waiting for: Camille. Or Cami now, to be more relatable, more likeable. Hear the sounds roll off your tongue: the name Cami skips playfully from your mouth, while the nasal sound of Camille bodes aloof, unapproachable. The name change is product branding or whatever.

She’s a washed up writer. Now scriptwriter and also, get this, leading lady. She scooped that right up, and Madame Director allowed it even though Cami has never performed on stage.

Why: Cami got one of the useless English degrees and expected it was worth something. Interned at a publishing company, but they wouldn’t look at her manuscript without an agent; and she couldn’t interest an agent though she had an in with a publisher.

She’d tell that sob story, then with a twinkle in her eye promise that this theatrical production would put us all on the map.

Hopeful.

Deluded.

But I would make her keep that promise.

Alibis are useless in this investigation, because all of us, of course, were at the theater when it happened. As for motive, don’t we all have something worth killing for?

If you were a Criminal Psychologist maybe you’d have this case wrapped up by now. Tell me, which of the listed characters am I, the murderer?

But statistically speaking, you likely aren’t a Criminal Psychologist, so here you are. Still reading. So many questions.

You know, you could hand this over to a Criminal Psychologist to solve. But I don’t think you will. Not now.

It’s not real, you say. It’s a book. And you’ll pore through this story looking for answers, intrigued by the tale, fascinated by death.

Okay, detectivize. Draw up a grid, write up characters and clues, cross off cleared suspects. Or whatever you crime buffs do. Maybe you have the cliché marker board to track your clues, or maybe you have the string linking ideas throughout a crime-solving room. You sure get off on this stuff, don’t you?

So let’s get to it. What I haven’t told you yet is How. But I can’t just tell you how she died. That’s too easy. Too quick. Buckle up: you’re in for a villainous monologue.

Author Bio:

Amy L. Sauder is a writer, educator, and creative. She has been called quirky meta mystery and walking fairytale. In her not-so-spare time, Amy coaches other writers and sells artistic fashion finds. While she has a degree in English, that has yet to land her amidst a murderous plot. Hopefully that doesn’t change.

BOOKS 1 and 2 in the AFTON MORRISON Series

9B7E33A0-D6E4-4C81-A968-BA3BEC5189DF

Oh my stars, Afton!! I’m still buzzing after reading this third book in the series!! This one was the most anxiety provoking, nail biting, I didn’t know if my kindle and I were going to get through it!!

Is evil a matter of choice, or are we born that way?
This is basically the thought process for the entire Afton Morrison series. But mostly we see it in this book. So much happens…holy smokes, so many revelations, so much develops and then so much doesn’t get resolved. Know what I mean? Afton is starting to learn more about herself, her feelings, why she’s the way she is. She goes through so much. I feel so bad for Afton. She really hasn’t had it easy and she only seems to know how to rely on herself and Animus (again, herself). She doesn’t even seem to be able to lean on her brother, Chris. He wants to protect her. But she doesn’t want that.
,
“You’re so far out of your depth, it’s not even funny. You’re out making deals with killers, and I can’t even get you to eat a steak.”
,
As for Jared, that boy does seem to know Afton. He appears to be very good at how to handle her.
,
Once again I’m not at all let down by this series. It only gets better and better. I can’t wait to get into book four and find out how Afton gets out of this next jam she’s in!! I’m rooting for you Afton!!!

My Review: IF WE FLY by Nina Lane

We fell in love. Then our world fell apart.

I wished so hard for Cole Danforth. And one day, he came true. He was my first crush, my first lover, my first and only love. He should also have been my last.

But in a split-second, we were ripped apart, our lives broken, my heart shattered. After ten years, I’ve returned to my hometown, the place of my greatest joy and darkest pain.

Cole is still here, but the beautiful boy I’d loved is gone. Now he’s a ruthless, unforgiving man determined to feed both my resentment and my lust.

Then our torturous past encroaches again, trapping us in a violent storm.

But this time, there is no escape.

My Review of IF WE FLY

“Don’t let go,” she says. “I won’t.” I lead her to the glittering wheel spinning against the night sky. “Come on, Josie Bird. Let’s fly.”
.
Oh, this series…I’m so in love with this series. I can’t say it enough…if you can, read this series!! Nina Lane has such a beautiful way with descriptive words. Her words tore my heart out at times. But read these beautiful examples:
.
“I keep going, desperate suddenly to run and keep running until the wind pushes me up into the sky, and I disappear.”
.
“A smile opens up from the middle of my soul, and a strange feeling lifts my heart. For an instant, I don’t recognize it. It’s light and airy, almost sparkly, like a purple balloon rising into the sky….Happiness.”
.
There were others, but I didn’t want to show you any that gave away anything.
This story about Cole and Josie really is heart wrenching. As I said in my review for IF WE FALL a tragic accident tears their world apart. Now in IF WE FLY, slowly we see things coming together again. But it’s not so easy. Nina Lane did a beautiful job weaving together love between Cole and Josie, love for family, and solving Josie’s mystery from her amnesia as a result of the the accident. By the time the book ended, I was so in love with the story that I wanted to start from the beginning and read it all over again. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
5++ Flying STARS!!!

My Review of IF WE FALL

I’m still trying to stitch my heart back together, and open a new box of tissues. This was a really…ugh…gut wrenching read. Just…such broken characters and raw emotions. Nina Lane really knows how to dig in deep.

First thing I’ll say is, make sure you read the prequel first!!! There’s too much you won’t understand if you don’t!!! Now, Cole and Josie are NOT in a good place. It’s VERY emotional and angsty. Josie comes home from California after 10 years to find that Cole isn’t the same person that he was before. Really Josie isn’t the same person either. They were both affected by the crash that happened all those years ago. Josie has amnesia and she cannot remember what happened after she left the anniversary party, until waking up in the hospital. She reads the police report over and over trying to remember what happened that day. She has nightmares and scary faces that she painted when she was in California. But now since coming back home she seeing the scary faces when she’s awake.
.
I don’t want to say too much and ruin the story for you. So I’m going to make this review a short one. But it’s interesting because it’s a little bit of a mystery, there’s romance, but then there’s angst and a lot of emotion. Then we’re left off wanting to know what happens in book two of the duet, IF WE FLY.
.
There were times that the book got me so emotional, and I haven’t been in a good place lately, that I thought I was going to hate this book. But Nina Lane has some unbelievable talent! She has won me over. I will be checking out some more of her books!! I am definitely giving this all the stars for all the feels!! I can’t wait to see what’s next!!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
5++ Falling Stars

.
My Review of IF WE LEAP(Prequel)
.
This is the prequel to the What If Duet. It pulled me in from the very start. Her characters are so well written and very complex. Cole and Josie are the two main characters. They met as children and Josie befriended Cole, whether he wanted her to or not. But Cole was a broken and abused boy who had no friends and Josie was a tiny little thing, a couple years younger than him, that he felt the need to protect. Josie looked at him like he was her hero, she looked at him with respect. No one had ever looked at him like that before. So Cole and Josie became very special to each other.

Years later, now in College, Josie and Cole see each other again. They’re still very special to each other. Josie still looks at Cole the same way. But Cole is so damaged from years of abuse and manipulation from his father. He doesn’t feel he deserves Josie and he doesn’t want to pull her into his mess of a life. My heart really went out to Cole. Josie loves him, but loving a damaged and broken person is not so easy.

I can’t wait to read the Duet!! This is my first time reading Nina Lane and I’m already SO IMPRESSED!!!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

5++ Leaping Stars

Then we’re left off wanting to know what happens in book two of the duet, IF WE FLY.

I’m in love with a man who tried to kill me. At least that’s what they tell me . . .

Six weeks ago, paramedics found me unconscious in my own home. Beaten. Bruised. Hardly breathing. When I woke up, I couldn’t remember the last three years or anything about my life in Jackson Harbor. They tell me my fiancé, Colton McKinley, is on the run for what he did to me. They tell me I’m safer if I stay away.

I don’t care if my memories ever come back. I want nothing to do with those missing years . . . until a sexy stranger with angry eyes shows up on my doorstep and demands I stop ignoring him.

Levi Jackson is my fiancé’s best friend, but seeing him sparks something inside me. As the truth unravels in my mind, I know they’re wrong about Colton. My own secrets are far more dangerous than the man I was engaged to.

I return to Jackson Harbor to search for answers and find myself running from a faceless boogeyman and seeking refuge in Levi’s arms. And in his bed.

I can’t deny my feelings for Levi. But as the pile of lies between us grows, I realize that sometimes the truth can’t set us free. It may be the very thing that could destroy us.

Excerpt:

The man searches my face. “That’s why you won’t come home. You’re afraid of Colton.”

“I don’t want anything to do with that life.”

He exhales heavily and rolls his shoulders back, as if he’s trying to shake off a ghost. “That’s not fair to the rest of us. To everyone who loves you, everyone who was sick with worry when they put you into that coma. Not. Fucking. Fair.”

I shrug. “Maybe losing a child and almost dying has made me a little selfish.”

His gaze drifts down to my stomach, and I cover it with my hand without thinking. “I’m sorry about the baby.”

I nod, tears springing to my eyes. “Me too.” So sorry.

“I understand if you want to live here now, but don’t cut us out. We all lost something that night.”

“Did you?”

He narrows his eyes. “You think I didn’t care? That this was all some game to me, and losing you was nothing?”

I wrap my arms around my chest, as if the pressure might weaken this force pulling me toward him by the solar plexus, this inexplicable need to be closer and let him wrap me in his arms. “Losing me? When was I ever yours to lose?”

He jerks his gaze away from me, slides off his stool, and downs the rest of his beer. “Thanks. I guess that clears up where we stand after everything.”

I open my mouth to apologize but swallow the words and meet his steady gaze.

Then he backs away and grabs his bags off the bar. He pulls an envelope from his pocket and hands it to me. “I was going to leave this for you with the barista next door, but I guess I can save myself the trouble.”

“What is it?” I ask, staring at the crisp black calligraphy that reads Ellie Courdrey.

“An invitation to Ava and Jake’s wedding. Despite what you seem to think of me, I’m not fucking my future sister-in-law.”

“Their wedding?”

He nods. “They thought about canceling after everything, but . . .” He stares at me for a long beat. “They decided to put love first.”

That feels like a jab. At me? At them? I don’t know. “I don’t want to go back there.”

“Maybe it’s not always about what you want.” He shrugs as if it’s no different to him either way, but I can tell by the tension in his shoulders that it matters a lot.

He steps forward—too close—and I let him, closing my eyes at his scent. Then a flash.

He’s over me. The weight of him presses into my hips, his calloused hands holding my face, his fingers in my hair. “You’re sure?”

I nod. Slide my hands down his back and lift my hips. “Yes. Please.”

He searches my eyes. “No regrets.”

I hold on to the memory of this man, wanting to examine it, to figure out what it means, but I’m too distracted by his closeness in this moment. He’s big. Strong. Warm.

He lowers his mouth to my ear. “I never stopped loving you. Even when you told me to. Even when you chose him.” And then he walks away.

The third book in The Boys of Jackson Harbor Series surprised me, and delighted me with it gradually revealing mystery, it’s nerve wracking suspense, and of course it swoon worthy Jackson Boy and his protective and loving, sweet, sexy ways.

Levi Jackson and Colton McKinley have been best friends for a long time. Both thrill seekers, both getting into trouble. But Colton went further and got into pain pills, and became addicted. Then along came Ellie. Colton met her first, but they were both in love with her. Levi, though loving his friend, backed off. But it went on for years. She was the first girl Colton ever took seriously. He was trying to cleanup his drug problem for her and everything.
.
Three years after Ellie met the boys, she is found in her apartment unconscious. Beaten. Bruised. Hardly breathing. She was in a coma for a while. And then when she wakes up she can’t remember anything from the last 3 years. Levi, Colton, Jackson Harbor where she lived. On top of all that Colton and his father both have gone missing.
.
The first person that is familiar to Ellie is Levi. She has little clips of memories of him. Plus she just has this feeling about him. So when she starts to remember and decides to go home to Jackson Harbor and solve the case of what happened, where’s Colton and his father, are they dead? She decides to turn to Levi for help. The mystery and suspense in this book are really well done!! With all the twists and turns, you aren’t sure what to think! I thought Lexi did a beautiful job with this! And as usual, the love story part of it was so beautiful! Levi is one hell of a guy!!! He is such a protective, sweet, kind, thoughtful, gentleman….until he gets the green light and then he’s a real alpha in the bedroom, in the shower, and almost in the kitchen (someone interrupted). Levi loves his family. He’s loyal. How can you not love Levi?!
.
I loved this book! Another 5 Star in this Series!! I can’t wait for book 4!
