Hardened Hearts by 17 Different Authors.

056E6DF9-8B96-4945-A38D-09423499543B

“Love hurts. Love bites. Love’s a bitch. Love is a battlefield. I hate myself for loving you.
Love isn’t always pretty, is it? In fact, it can be downright scary, which is why for every catchy-but-disgustingly-sappy song with a title like Love Will Keep Us Together there’s one that strongly begs to differ: Love Will Tear Us Apart.”

“The stories in Hardened Hearts are about love that hurts. They are tales of forbidden love, and love that’s on borrowed time. They are stories about sexual love and love between star-crossed romantics, but also included here are stories of a guilt-ridden father’s love for his little girl, obsessions with inanimate objects, and even one woman’s unnatural, and shared, love for a spider (!). Love is strange, like the Everly Brothers sang way back in 1965, but once you’ve got it you never wanna quit. And, as each entry in this fine anthology proves, there’s nothing on Earth that’s more terrifying.”

I enjoyed some of these stories more than others, but overall I really enjoyed the book! I found it fascinating, funny, horrifying, creepy, dark and even a little sad (I didn’t cry though). I want to list a few of my favorites, but I’ll put on top the one I enjoyed the most!

HEIRLOOM by Theresa Braun – I really felt this one deserved it’s own book!! A++
THE HEART OF THE ORCHARD by Erin Sweet Al-Mehairi – This one deserved it’s own book also! A+
IT BREAKS MY HEART TO WATCH YOU ROT by Somer Canon A
DOG TIRED by Eddie Generous A-

Those were just my favorites. I enjoyed the others too. I recommend this as a very different, creepy, dark, fascinating, quick little read. There were a few authors on here that I already knew were very good, but now I’ve learned of some others. That’s what I love about these anthologies.

HER (a horror short story) by Danielle Rose

IMG_1054.jpgKemper Academy is over a hundred years old, but it has only recently reopened after a series of murders and stories of hauntings shut it down. Avlynn, a new student, refuses to let the rumors scare her, chalking them up to a bit of friendly freshman hazing. But when night falls and screams draw her from her room, she finds the truth is much more horrifying than any ghost story.

My Thoughts:

This was such a creepy, short little story. I found it really fun! If you’re looking for some creepy books to read (and it’s a short one too), I would definitely recommend this one!!

I would say something more about the story than the summary does, but because it’s short I’m afraid I would ruin the story for you! But I recommend you read this for yourself!!

Have fun!!

My review for The Bride of Glass

“through all the darkness that hibernates in all of us, the light can always subdue it” –The Bride of Glass by Candace Robinson

I’ve been so excited for this release!! I’ve been looking forward to having others to discuss this book with. It’s sooo good!!

The Bride of Glass is different than Quinsey Wolfe in a way. But it’s being different is a good thing. Sometimes a second book can almost become a little repetitive of the first one, which can cause the story to become a little stale. The Bride of Glass is fresh and new. It almost took me back at first. It starts out very dark and somewhat violent, and the reader feels a little worried about the characters that we’ve grown to care about. But no worries, there’s humor, romance and hope!!

Candace Robinson writes characters that you can’t help but grow to have feelings for, whether good or bad. I want to talk about the characters, but every time I type something I erase it. I just don’t want to ruin anything for you when you start reading it right from the beginning. So I will keep my mouth shut!! But, when you’re done we will talk. Lol

The Bride of Glass was a wonderful ending to this duology!! (Although there is room for a possible Trilogy…hint, hint Candace!) This is definitely a favorite series for me!! So I highly recommend you read the second and final (sniff, sniff) installment to this series!!! And if you haven’t read Quinsey Wolfe’s Glass Vault start there, you won’t regret it…it SO GOOD!!! 5/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

~I would like to thank the author for an advanced copy of this book, which I’m giving my honest review on.

Quinsey Wolfe’s Glass Vault by Candace Robinson

“You die here, you stay here.”    IMG_0749

IMG_252This book was such a wonderful surprise! It went straight into my favorites folder when I was done. I was in a reading slump and had this cued up in my currently reading list for a while, just waiting for me to get myself back to reading. One day I said, that’s it I’m just going to open the book and give it a try. Well, it was a good move!!! This book was AMAZING!!!!! I’m officially out of my slump!

Candace Robinson has a very imaginative and creative mind!! It’s astonishing to think that this is her debut book! I’m eager to see what she will come up with next! This was very unique! It is a bit creepy, dark fantasy, suspenseful, adventurous and there’s a tad bit of romance in there. There are portals in this story, but not time travel. They are stuck in Quincey Wolfe’s Glass Vault, which is a Glass museum of fairytales. Not your average fairytales, but twisted fairytales. Anyway, they become stuck in the displays and these portals suck them from one display to the next.

The characters are very well written and you really grow to care about them. As they travel through the museum, from one display to the next (Sleepy Hollow, Jack the Ripper, etc), they hope the next portal will lead them home. Each display is well written and easy to picture and you can imagine you are there, which makes it all very intense and exciting!!

I highly…..and I mean HIGHLY recommend this to anyone who enjoys the genres above.
I am SO looking forward to the second/final book “The Bride of Glass” coming in October 2017.
