Dulce García was a teen sexually exploited by a violent New York pimp until Marisol Rivera rescued her. But Dulce didn’t stay rescued for long. In SIDE CHICK NATION, Dulce’s unhealed trauma and appetite for thrills lead her into an endless party of sugar daddies in the Caribbean. Until she gets caught in Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico—and witnesses both the heartbreaking disaster of climate change, and the international vultures who plunder the tragedy for a financial killing, making shady use of relief funds to devastate the island even more . . .

Meanwhile, New York-based mastermind thief Marisol already has her hands full fleecing a ruthless CEO who’s stealing her family’s land in Puerto Rico and getting her relatives out alive. An additional crew member could be game-changing, but she’s wary of Dulce’s unpredictability and history of indiscretion. Still, Dulce’s growing determination to get justice draws Marisol in, along with her formidable Lower East Side Women’s Health Clinic’s heist squad. But their on-the-fly race-against-the-clock plan is soon complicated by a sexy crusading journalist—not to mention powerful men who turn deadly when ex-side chicks step out of the shadows and demand to call the shots…

MY REVIEW

When I finished this book I was freaking out!! I don’t even think I could have formed complete sentences to write my review! This book!!! It was EVEN BETTER than the first book, which was awesome!!! If you haven’t started this series, you really need to!!

So, the book starts right off where the cliffhanger from book one left off. There’s lots of suspense, action and mystery. Some things get resolved, but then there’s twists and turns that are pretty shocking. The whole thing moves along pretty quick and you can’t take your eyes off the page. It’s so intense! I think I growled anytime someone spoke to me, especially towards the end of the book. No phone calls, I’m reading this book!! Lol! I had the book read in a day. I’m not sure how many hours, I was too busy reading to pay attention.

We actually find out about Afton’s past, and that was pretty interesting (to say the least)!! I love Afton, she is the most fascinating character I’ve ever read about. And I absolutely love that we see things through her eyes.

“That was just a big misunderstanding, I’m sure. I’m a children’s librarian. I don’t make a habit of hanging out in dive bars, and I definitely don’t condone violence. I mean, my God, I’m a vegetarian. I don’t even like the thought of hurting an animal.” – Afton in See You Soon, Afton by Brent Jones

So far this series is OUTSTANDING!!!! I am literally dying here to see what happens in book 3!!! How does Afton solve this next problem?!

I can’t recommend this book, this series, highly enough!! I’d give it 10 Stars if that were possible!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Review: The Sea Was A Fair Master by Calvin Demmer

2F1924CE-AEE3-41A2-90A6-A3941FF91E31When I picked up this collection of 23 stories by the oh-so talented Calvin Demmer, I thought I was about to read 23 short horror stories. Oh….people!! This is SO MUCH more than that!! In fact, these stories are the kind of stories that stick in your head and aren’t too quick to leave. In fact, I savored this book. I read a couple of stories here and there. I loved reading it like that!!! Everyone is different, another person might choose to read it all in one go! But I liked having a couple of stories to carry around in my head for the day!! And they really did stay with me like no other story. Because many of them just end leaving the rest up to you to wonder about. So my imagination would be buzzing around about the characters and why this happened, or what might have happened further on down the road, etc. I just loved how these stories had me going!!

Now, back to them being all horror. They weren’t really. In fact I realized this afterward, so I reread the book description, or summary, which says, “The Sea Was a Fair Master is a collection of 23 stories, riding the currents of fantasy, science fiction, crime, and horror. There are tales of murder, death, loss, revenge, greed, and hate. There are also tales of hope, survival, and love.”

Calvin Demmer is a Master of Words!!! Yes he has quite the imagination, but to be able to put that across in words that affect people the way you want it to, or maybe even more profoundly than you even planned….well that is indeed a gift with words!!!

Just to give you a sneak peek of a few titles, here’s a few of my favorites:

– On The Seventh Day
– The Peeper
– Fear The Clowns
– Voodoo Child
– Letting The Dead Grow
– Hangman
– Graves

Revenge, murder and meeting the Family at Christmas

When London mob boss, Jack Murray, discovers he has a son, his joy is short-lived: Nicholas is not a chip off the old block; he’s a nurse whose patients call him an “angel”.

Jack is not happy. He needs someone with balls – not a halo – to inherit the Firm. Zenka takes charge. Using her feminine wiles and gangland contacts she will bring out the gorilla in Nicholas. Her tactics are unusual, and illegal, and things soon start to spiral out of control.

“Don’t vorry, Jack. Ven I am finished vith Nicholas he vill be dog’s bollocks just like his papa” –Zenka

MY THOUGHTS:

Alison Brodie is a new to me and I am really impressed!! I REALLY look forward to what she has coming next. Alison, I will be staying with you for the ride!!!

ZENKA is fun, exciting, hysterically funny and filled with some pretty intense scenes!! It’s a wild and fun ride!! I was giggling, laughing, and snorting out loud throughout the book!! A bit awkward if you’re out in public. I loved the characters and really got invested. There were times I had tears running down my face (not from laughing) because I was happy for the characters or my heart went out to them. It was just such a beautifully written story! Not to mention the accents!! I LOVED the accents!!! ZENKA’S was the most fun! She is Hungarian, and a fiesty one at that! It vas so much fun to read vhat she says in book!! Lol. Every once in a while between chapters she writes to her friend, Alina, in Hungary. Those letters usually reveal what ZENKA is thinking, and things we wouldn’t know otherwise. But she’s pretty funny in those letters. I love ZENKA…she just cracks me up!!
I JUST WANT TO SEE THIS BOOK AS A MOVIE, I WOULD LOVE IT!!!!

Oh, there’s also Cockney slang. But Alison, so obligingly, put a Cockney translation page. I bookmarked it on my kindle so that I could easily refer back to it. I didn’t have to very much though, you catch on real quick.

I would recommend this book to everyone, unless you hate to laugh…then don’t read it!! Haha….no, really…READ THIS BOOK!!! YOU’LL LOVE IT!!!!
