Loving Kalvin by Siobhan Davis

IMG_0662This is such a beautiful romance. Yes there is drama and there is angst, but in my opinion that just made the romance that much more romantic. And lordy, can Siobhan Davis write some beautiful romance!! She also wrote some great hot and heavy scenes too!

Kalvin and Lana are soulmates.

Definition of Soulmate in the Urban Dictionary:
A person with whom you have an immediate connection the moment you meet — a connection so strong that you are drawn to them in a way you have never experienced before. As this connection develops over time, you experience a love so deep, strong and complex, that you begin to doubt that you have ever truly loved anyone prior. Your soulmate understands and connects with you in every way and on every level, which brings a sense of peace, calmness and happiness when you are around them. And when you are not around them, you are all that much more aware of the harshness of life, and how bonding with another person in this way is the most significant and satisfying thing you will experience in your lifetime. You are also all that much aware of the beauty in life, because you have been given a great gift and will always be thankful.

IMG_2039Throughout reading the Kennedy Boys series we see this is what Kalvin and Lana have had since they were children and it grew stronger as they got older, until Kalvin’s mother put a stop to them seeing each other. But that connection was still there, even when they tried to fight it. They hurt each other many times. It was just about killing them. Now in Loving Kalvin they are in college. Lana went to University of Florida. Kalvin went there, thinking that’s where she went, and he wanted to find her and win back her love. He knew they belonged together and was willing to try whatever it took to get her back. it was beautiful and he was so incredibly romantic.

IMG_2043Lana feels she’s undeserving of Kalvin’s love. She’s made some pretty horrible mistakes and hurt Kalvin very badly. Even though he says he forgives her, she just cannot forgive herself. It doesn’t help that she still isn’t being totally honest with him and is holding back something very important from him. The guilt is eating her up and making her feel unworthy of his love.

The whole story is so heartwarming and the lesson of forgiveness is a big one. I loved this book so much! Every single page!! We even got some glimpses of my favorite Kennedy, Kyler, and Faye, and the family! Yay!! I totally recommend this book, in fact I recommend that you NOT MISS IT!!! But make sure you have a box of tissues on hand, because you will feel ALL the feels!!!

Sketches of My SoulSketches of My Soul (Sketches #1)
By TC Booth
Genre: Contemporary
Age category: Young Adult
Release Date: June 20, 2017

Blurb:
In the game of life, I was used to being on the losing team. The odds were stacked against me. Tegan’s Team—a mom who tried to control me, a dad who would rather drink then spend time being a father, a lying ex-boyfriend, and fake friends. Like any team however, you have that one shining star that stood out above the rest. For me that star was Emily, my best friend.

I guess life had pity on me the day it gave me a friend that always had my back. Life must have felt extra giving the day it gave me a cheer leader—Mrs. White, my next-door neighbor. She’d been more of a parent to me growing up then my own parents.

And then there was Andrew. He was my shooting star. One that I never saw coming. One that I hoped became mine over the summer of my senior year.

A glimpse into a crystal ball couldn’t have prepared me for that summer, though. The summer where a letter from my mom rocked me to the core. I felt the world shake with every word I read in that letter. By the time I reached the end, my world split wide open swallowing me whole.

I really enjoyed this book. The characters really drew me and I became very invested in their lives. Tegan struggled a lot in her life and felt alone. She would get her feelings out by taking her sketchbook and sketching what she felt, whether good or bad. She had one sketchbook where she kept her private feelings, much like a diary, but sketches. These were the sketches of her soul, you could say. (I just love that title!) She got lost in her sketching, becoming oblivious to the things around her. Much like a musician that gets lost in his music, which is where Andrew comes in. Andrew and Tegan were friends when they were younger. Tegan lives next door to Andrew’s grandmother, who she loves as if she was her own, and Andrew would come with his mother to visit his grandmother and play with Tegan while he was there. They became very close friends. But then one day Andrew stopped coming. No explanations, no goodbyes, he just disappeared. Leaving Tegan alone.

Tegan’s family relationships weren’t good. Her mother tried to control her, and was never happy with her. She always made Tegan feel like she wasn’t good enough. Her father was an alcoholic and, as Tegan felt, he’d rather spend time being drunk than be a good father. She had a lying ex-boyfriend and fake friends. Realizing all of this has caused Tegan to pull away from everyone and everything and choose to isolate herself more and more, even though her best friend Emily begs her not to, saying that by doing so she is only letting them win. But it’s Andrew who really draws Tegan out. He gets her like no one else, and she gets him. They understand each other in ways no one else can and so are able to help each other heal.

I loved the title of this book, it is what initially attracted me to the book. There are a few typos and grammatical errors, not enough that it caused me not to enjoy the book though. But, I do really recommend the book. The errors did not ruin the story for me and, unless you can’t handle any errors, I think you would enjoy this little gem of a book! It really is great!!

(This song and dancing in the rain, both have to do with the story.)

Hearts are Like Balloons by Candace Robinson

115c6-hearts-are-like-balloons

Although it’s been a couple of weeks since I read this book, I haven’t been able to shake it.  Hearts are Like Balloons is the kind of book that, after you read it, it stays with you. It gets under your skin and doesn’t let you go. I say this in a good way. In the way where you want to pick the book back up and read it all over again. It follows you around, bringing up scenes in your head and you find yourself feeling emotions all over again. A couple weeks out and this is still happening to me. I was deeply affected by the beginning when May lost her father. I felt as though I was going through it with her, along side of her. I felt the same as things in her life shifted, when she met Violet and Niko. Candace Robinson knows how to write characters in such a way that they really come to life off the pages. I am a very character driven reader, so this is very important to me for me to really enjoy a book

Speaking of the characters, May was a very strong young girl who experienced a lot at a young age. I liked May a lot. I liked her wit, her strength, her passion and she really had a wonderful heart. Niko…sweet Niko…the perfect boyfriend for May. There   really isn’t anything negative I could say about Niko…he’s just about perfect. Just about. Jessie, May’s best friend. The bestest of best friends. Jessie was great. Violet, Niko’s purple loving sister. Violet is a bit of a crazy artist, but also a good sister and a good friend to May. Jana, May’s mother. May and her mom have been through a lot, but remained close through it all. Jana was a really good mom.

I loved this book!! This book touches the heart. It will make you cry, laugh, smile, cry again, laugh some more….you get the picture. ALL THE FEELS!!!! This deserves more than 5 stars for me and one I won’t soon forget!!

Keeping Kyler by Siobhan Davis

22b9d-keeping-kyler

The captivating third book in the Kennedy Boys series concludes Faye and Kyler’s love story.

Nothing or no one will keep them apart…

Kyler Kennedy is in the wind.

Shocked and upset, he has taken off on a solo mission—to track down his mom’s ex and demand answers.

Faye understands what it’s like to have your world turned upside down. Determined to support her boyfriend, she gives chase. Yet nothing could prepare her for the ugly truth. Ky has always been plagued with inner demons, and as he falls apart, Faye finally discovers what he’s been hiding from her—from everyone.

When serious accusations arise, Kyler’s future hangs in the balance. But Kennedys stick together in times of crisis, and they rally around him now.

At least there is nothing to prevent Faye and Ky from being together. They go public with their relationship, but not everyone is thrilled for them. Enemies reappear, and fresh battle lines are drawn, but Faye is ready to fight back.

No one is taking her new family from her.

Especially not a manipulative ex.

With time running out for Kyler, Faye takes matters into her own hands.

But when you play with fire, you risk getting burned.

I have been procrastinating writing this review for a while, because I’ve just been so emotional about the end of Kyler and Faye’s story.  Sure I know they are going to show up throughout the Kennedy Boys Series here and there, but Kyler is my favorite Kennedy boy. Ky won my heart. I loved Ky and Faye’s relationship. This just goes to show how well Siobhan Davis writes her characters, she writes awesome characters. I had a really hard time letting go of the characters at the end of her Saven Series. AND THIS ISN’T EVEN THE END OF A SERIES!!! lol…I’ve been moping around , not wanting to read anything else. Don’t laugh at my pain! lol Anyway…my review….

Small Five Stars

“My entire world starts and ends with him. When he isn’t with me, he’s all I think about to the point of obsession.” Faye (Keeping Kyler)

Book three picks up right where book two left off (I love how Siobhan Davis does this), but I’m not going to say how it picks up or what’s going on, because I don’t want to spoil it for those who have not read book two. Although, I have to say “What are you waiting for?”!!!Especially if you’ve read Book one, you need to read book two!!! OMG…I’m rambling…I just really love this series and highly recommend it!!!! As you can tell by the synopsis, Kyler has taken off, by himself, to track down his mom’s ex and demand answers. He has left Faye behind with just a note, no goodbye, no talking about it…just left her a note and disappeared.  But Faye understands what it’s like to have your world turned upside down and the rug pulled out from under your feet, so she wants to be there for Ky. That’s the beauty of their relationship, they really do get each other and they put each other’s needs first. Now, anyway, it was a rocky start…but they have grown. So she’s there for Kyler, with all he’s going through, even when his ex tries to shake things up. Things get pretty crazy, pretty suspenseful and it will keep you guessing.

“That’s what you do when you’re in love. Nothing else matters but you, Faye.”  He rubs his thumbs under my eyes, smoothing the moisture away. “Not now. Not Ever.” Kyler (Keeping Kyler)

I have to say, although I’m sad Kyler and Faye’s story has come to a close, I am really looking forward to Kalvin story in Loving Kalvin. He is so sweet and I want to see him have the happy ending he deserves, after all he’s been through.

Asher Black by Parker S. Huntington

You MUST check out this new author, she is FABULOUS!!! It’s hard to believe this is her first book!! I will be following her work and reading whatever she comes up with next!

I have a new book boyfriend…and his name is Asher Black! OMG…he is definitely drool worthy!!
Asher and Lucy are amazing characters, with so many layers…as layers are peeled back and emotions and fears are dealt with they become stronger. Lucy learns she is no longer a runner, who runs from her problems, but she finds strength and courage. Asher learns trust and love, and how to let someone in. This isn’t just a romance book, it’s so much more!!

Parker S. Huntington will go far, if she keeps writing like this!

Hushed by Joanne Macgregor

What started out like a funny, humorous read worked its way to a thrilling end. It was really about learning about yourself and how love doesn’t have to mean sacrificing who you are to be with someone else. I love how Romy and Logan grew to become better version of themselves. Also, Romy grows and comes to realize that she has to let go of all the expectations and do what makes her happy, and those who love her will accept and support her. It really is such a beautiful and enchanting read, and the fact that it took place in South Africa was so educational too. The terms and definitions at the end helped fill in a few questions that I wondered about.

If you enjoy retellings, young adult romance and even a book that touches on environmental issues…look no further!! I highly recommend this. You will thoroughly enjoy curling up with this one!!
