As a reviewer, I try to always be honest in my opinion and fair to the author. So if I find I read a book and the genre is not to my liking, I am going to be honest about that. But at the same time, I would never rate a book by that alone. I would explain the genre is not for me, but that the writing is well done, storyline is easy to follow, etc. and that someone who enjoys that genre would probably really like the book. It’s not fair to the Author to rate badly just because we picked the wrong genre.
I leave reviews on my Blog, Goodreads, Amazon (US, UK, AU and CA), Barnes and Noble, KOBO, iBooks. For social media, my reviews are posted to: Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, Pinterest, Instagram and BookBub (if I can locate the book on there).
The Genres I generally review are:
– New Adult
– Young Adult
– Fantasy (Some)
I love anything that’s very unique.
Things I’m NOT INTERESTED in reviewing:
– Non-Fiction (I’ve done some, but very little.)
– Historical Romance
MY RATING SCALE
5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I love it!! I want to proclaim my love for this book to as many as possible!!
4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Awesome, that was a great book!! I must tell others that this is a good read!!
3 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ That was a good book. I enjoyed it. (Rarely gives 3’s)
I know other people put in 2 and 1 star ratings. Personally I would never publicly give that low of a rating. I would tactfully let the author know how I feel (WORST PART OF REVIEWING BOOKS) and then I might write a tactful blog post and review on goodreads (no stars) about how I felt about the book. But TACTFULLY…this is STILL SOMEONE’S WORK THAT THEY PUT THEIR HEART AND SOUL INTO. I choose to only rate positively. Many feel it’s their job to educate the author, and I have no problem if they want to tactfully & privately contact the author with their concerns. But ALWAYS remembering this is something the author has poured blood, sweat & tears into, so maybe have a heart in the way you deliver your concerns. I never lie. I just don’t post the low ratings. My opinion is NOT THAT important!
So that is me as a reviewer in a nutshell!
