Sneak Peek: DEAR BRIDGET, I WANT YOU by Penelope Ward & Vi Keeland

Dear Bridget,

I’m writing this letter because it’s highly doubtful I’ll ever garner the courage to say this to your face.

So, here goes.

We’re totally wrong for each other. You’re the proper single mum with a good head on your shoulders. I’m just the carefree British doctor passing through town and temporarily living in your converted garage until I head back to England.

But here’s the thing… for some bloody reason, I can’t stop thinking about you in very inappropriate ways.

I want you.

The only reason I’m even admitting all of this to you right now is because I don’t believe it’s one-sided. I notice your eyes when you look at me, too. And as crass as I appear when we’re joking around about sex, my attraction to you is not a joke.

So, what’s the purpose of this note? I guess it’s a reminder that we’re adults, that sex is healthy and natural, and that you can find me just through the door past the kitchen. More specifically, it’s to let you know that I’m leaving said door cracked open from now on in case you’d like to visit me in the middle of the night sometime.

No questions asked.

Think about it.

Or don’t.

Whatever you choose.

It’s doubtful I’ll even end up sliding this letter under your door anyway.

–Simon

Every time I considered leaving my room, I would grab the framed picture of Ben and stare at it. The urge to go to Simon was so strong; I basically hadn’t put down the framed photo of my deceased husband in an hour. I was lying in my bed, holding a picture of a dead man while fantasizing about one who was very much alive and in the other room. With the door cracked open waiting for me. There was one part of Simon’s note that I just kept reading over and over.

I want to make you come. Hard. I want you to get lost in me and I want to hear you say my name over and over while we fuck.

While we fuck.

While we fuck.

I was pretty sure that Ben had never used the word fuck like that before. Did we even fuck? We made love, sure. Our sex life was normal—at least, I think it was normal. Don’t get me wrong, the passion wasn’t the same as when we first got together. But after ten years, both of us working full time and raising a child, it was normal to have some of the desire dwindle, wasn’t it?

While we fuck.

I looked at the picture of my husband and sighed. We didn’t fuck. Not even in the beginning. And I felt guilty for that now. Maybe we should have been fucking. I certainly didn’t do anything to entice him to want me the last few years. Was it my fault our sex life had gotten boring? I rested the picture of Ben over my heart and laid my hand over it. I could feel my heart beating out of control beneath my fingers.

Shutting my eyes, I tried to force thoughts of Simon from my mind. But it was no use. Visions of his hard, sculpted body hovering over me had infiltrated my brain. So, here I was, a thirty-three-year-old, single mother lying in my bed all alone with a picture of my dead husband held to my heart while I visualized fucking another man.

Fucking.

Not making love.

I needed my head examined.

After two hours and no sleep in sight, I decided the only way I was going to be able to get any rest was if I got everything I was feeling off of my chest. Flicking on the light, I carefully set the framed photo of my beloved Ben on my nightstand and then opened the drawer and dug out a pen and piece of pretty stationery. I would write down my thoughts to clear my mind. I had no intention of actually giving the letter to Simon, so there was no reason to filter anything I said.

Dear Simon…

Nyxia by Scott Reintgen

IMG_1030

Book Summary:

Emmett Atwater isn’t just leaving Detroit; he’s leaving Earth. Why the Babel Corporation recruited him is a mystery, but the number of zeroes on their contract has him boarding their lightship and hoping to return to Earth with enough money to take care of his family.

Forever.

Before long, Emmett discovers that he is one of ten recruits, all of whom have troubled pasts and are a long way from home. Now each recruit must earn the right to travel down to the planet of Eden—a planet that Babel has kept hidden—where they will mine a substance called Nyxia that has quietly become the most valuable material in the universe.

But Babel’s ship is full of secrets. And Emmett will face the ultimate choice: win the fortune at any cost, or find a way to fight that won’t forever compromise what it means to be human.

My Review:

Nyxia was a really unique book. When I started reading it, I thought a little of hunger games with all the competition. But I soon realized this was its own story and a pretty intense one at times too. Emmett is the main character, and I grew to really like him. He is such a good kid. He came from a good family, and has good values. It is this that makes him outstanding amongst the other kids.

You see Emmett, like the others, was recruited by the Babel Corporation to enter the spaceship going to Eden. Once on the ship they were to compete. There were 10 of them, but only 8 would go to Eden. The competition was designed to prepare them for what they would, or could, go through on Eden. They had technology never seen before to learn to use. The competition got pretty intense. But the rewards of going to Eden meant everything to these kids!!

Some of the kids were ruthless. Some were skilled. Some were plain desperate. And some became like family to each other.

I LOVED reading this book!! It left on a cliffhanger, so I’m hoping it won’t be too long before the next book comes out!!

But, I really do recommend this!! If you like science fiction, with some action/adventure, a bit of a thriller….you’ll LOVE Nyxia!!!!

Review for Deadman’s Tome Final Contact!

IMG_0975.jpgDeadman’s Tome Final Contact by Eric S Brown, James Grim Desborough, David M Hoenig, Brian Melechy Quinn, Candace Robinson , Nadeleine Swann, Dj Tyrer, Kristofer Velasquez

Goodreads description: Deadman’s Tome presents First Contact. This volume of galactic terror features stories that warn of the consequences of bold space exploration, exploitative mining, venturing too far, and contact with foreign entities. You see, dear reader, we are not alone, and our first contact might just be our last!

So this is an anthology of short Sci-Fi stories that are pretty dang creepy. As the book summary says the stories warn of the consequences of bold exploration, exploitative mining, venturing too far, and contact with foreign entities. And first contact is NOTHING like E.T. in these stories. I really had fun reading them, of course some I enjoyed more than others, but overall this book was a lot of creepy, sci-fi fun!

I’ll mention a few of my favorites, I guess. Here’s my very favorites:

~A Slow Death by James ‘Grim’ Desborough

~Dancers in the Darkness by Eric S Brown

~A Layer Hidden by Candace Robinson – This one is my very, very favorite!!!

~The Octopus In The Corner of the Room by Madeleine Swann

These are my very favorites, but I enjoyed reading them all. They were some freaky fun!!!

My Review

Kyler and Faye❤️ My favorite Kennedy Boy and his girl. They were the stars of this novella, so how could I not love it?!

The Kennedys are going to Ireland! Ky and Faye spend three weeks there on their own, and then the rest of the family joins them after that. Those first three weeks are a blissful, contented time for them. They make their own memories in Faye’s home, which help her in dealing with the many memories that haunt her as she misses her parents. I LOVED when she brought Ky to her parents graves. He introduced himself to them, giving a very touching speech and ending it with “I will love her, protect her, and support her for the rest of my days. I give you my solemn promise.” It was so beautiful and so romantic!! Kyler is such a romantic guy! Who would have thought that when I first started this series with Finding Kyler, he would turn out to be a romantic?! “I will always be here for you. No matter what. My world would cease to exist if you weren’t in it, and that’s not something I’ll ever consider. I’m going to propose to you one day, Faye.” I kiss the back of her hand. “I want marriage, kids, everything, with you.” *sigh*

Anyway, I know this isn’t ONLY about Ky and Faye!! So, now they go to the airport to meet the family. “Alex is leading the posse as they step out through the sliding doors, and, honestly, it’s like watching a trailer for the latest hot boys’ movie. A quiet hush settles over the place as my cousins saunter toward the exit like bona fide movie stars.” The Kennedy Boys are in Ireland!!!!

Well, as you can imagine, the first thing the boys do is go to a party! In fact, they go to a number of parties. And these Kennedy Boys really like to stir up a lot of trouble! Kennedy Boys gone wild!! That’s all I’m gonna say!! Oh, and Faye is definitely related…she’s quite a spitfire herself!!!

This book is packed full of Kennedy adventures that you won’t want to miss!!

My review for The Bride of Glass

“through all the darkness that hibernates in all of us, the light can always subdue it” –The Bride of Glass by Candace Robinson

I’ve been so excited for this release!! I’ve been looking forward to having others to discuss this book with. It’s sooo good!!

The Bride of Glass is different than Quinsey Wolfe in a way. But it’s being different is a good thing. Sometimes a second book can almost become a little repetitive of the first one, which can cause the story to become a little stale. The Bride of Glass is fresh and new. It almost took me back at first. It starts out very dark and somewhat violent, and the reader feels a little worried about the characters that we’ve grown to care about. But no worries, there’s humor, romance and hope!!

Candace Robinson writes characters that you can’t help but grow to have feelings for, whether good or bad. I want to talk about the characters, but every time I type something I erase it. I just don’t want to ruin anything for you when you start reading it right from the beginning. So I will keep my mouth shut!! But, when you’re done we will talk. Lol

The Bride of Glass was a wonderful ending to this duology!! (Although there is room for a possible Trilogy…hint, hint Candace!) This is definitely a favorite series for me!! So I highly recommend you read the second and final (sniff, sniff) installment to this series!!! And if you haven’t read Quinsey Wolfe’s Glass Vault start there, you won’t regret it…it SO GOOD!!! 5/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

~I would like to thank the author for an advanced copy of this book, which I’m giving my honest review on.
